Midwest Energy Cooperative is a member-owned electric utility serving more than 31,000 residential, agricultural, commercial and industrial customers in southwestern and southeastern Michigan, northern Indiana and Ohio. The corporate headquarters is in Cassopolis, with district offices in Paw Paw and Adrian. A nine-member Board of Directors governs the Cooperative, with each Director representing their fellow member-consumers in their respective districts.

Services are provided in portions of Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph, Kalamazoo and Van Buren Counties in southwestern Michigan and Lenawee County in southeastern Michigan. Additionally, our territory reaches into St. Joseph, Elkhart and Lagrange Counties in northern Indiana and Williams and Fulton Counties in northern Ohio.

On January 1, 1998, Midwest Energy Cooperative began serving the electric needs of more than 31,000 customers in portions of southern Michigan and northern Indiana and Ohio. The new company was formed as a result of the merger between Fruit Belt Electric Cooperative (based in Cassopolis) and Southeastern Energy Cooperative (based in Adrian), both of which had served their respective districts since 1937. Member-owners of each of those co-ops gave the proposed merger their overwhelming stamps of approval at membership meetings on October 18, 1997. The result was a stronger organization capable of providing better customer service and offering a more diverse array of products and services to its member-owners.

Our core service is and always will be the distribution of electricity, but today’s Midwest Energy Cooperative is your energy company and more!
