Each year MECA awards two $1,000 scholarships to qualifying youth. To be an eligible scholarship applicant, you must be a high school senior planning to attend a Michigan college or post-secondary school fulltime by fall of 2011, and one of your parents/guardians must be a member or employee of your local Michigan rural electric cooperative.

Selection will be based on:

  • Grade point average;
  • Characteristics of responsibility, leadership and academic achievement;
  • Extra curricular and community activities;
  • Appropriate course of study;
  • Essay response; and
  • May include an interview.

    Applicants must complete and submit an application accompanied by a copy of a high school or college transcript by April 1, 2010.

    Lindsay Holmquist of Reed City and Hayley O’Meara of Onaway are recipients of the 2009 MECA scholarship awards. MECA received 282 applications for the scholarships.
