Each year MECA awards two $1,000 scholarships to qualifying youth. To be eligible, applicants, or one of their parents/guardians, must be a member or employee of a Michigan rural electric cooperative. They must also be planning to attend, or currently attend, a Michigan college or school full-time.

Selection will be based on:

  • Grade point average;
  • Characteristics of responsibility, leadership and academic achievement;
  • Extra curricular and community activities;
  • Appropriate course of study;
  • Essay response; and
  • May include an interview.

Applicants must complete and submit an application accompanied by a copy of a high school or college transcript by April 1, 2008.

Chelsea Kreft or Rogers City, and Sara Tausch of Vassar, are recipients of the 2007 MECA scholarship awards. MECA received 121 applications for the scholarships.
