High school students, win a free trip to D.C.! Your electric co-op may be looking for outstanding high school sophomores, junior or seniors to experience a fun-filled, all-expenses-paid week in our nation’s capital. (Participating Michigan co-ops are listed below.)
Nearly 1,500 high school students from across the U.S. will gather in Washington, D.C., this June to get an inside look at our national government and tour the city. Tours and outings often include the National Cathedral, Arlington National Cemetery, the war memorials, Smithsonian museums, a theater performance, boat ride on the Potomac and a trip to Capitol Hill to visit Michigan congressional representatives and staff. Participants will also meet other students from around the country.
Students selected for the Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., scheduled for June 13-18, 2009, are usually chosen from those who attend Electric Cooperative Teen Days in April. Find out more about Teen Days here.
Students interested in Teen Days and the Youth Tour should contact their local electric cooperative (listed below). Most co-ops require an application and ask for information about your community and school activities and a brief explanation of why you wish to attend Teen Days (requirements vary between co-ops). Applications are rated on the basis of interest in learning about co-op businesses along with community and school activities.
The Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., is sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and the Michigan Electric Cooperative Association. Learn more and see more photos at YOUTHTOUR.COOP!
