Apple Dumpling Cake

Ingredients

4 c. flour
2 t. salt
1 1/3 c. shortening
8-9 T. cold water
8 c. apples, pared and sliced 1/4 inch thick
1/4 c. sugar
3/4 t. cinnamon

Directions

Combine flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in shortening until the size of peas. Sprinkle with water and mix until dough forms. Divide dough into 4 parts. Roll one part of dough into a 9×13 inch rectangle. Place in bottom of pan. Place 1/3 of the apples on top of dough. Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle 1/3 of it on top of apples. Repeat crust, apples and sugar and cinnamon mix 2 times. Top with remaining crust. Slit through all layer with a sharp knife. Syrup:
2 c. water
1 c. brown sugar Mix in a large bowl and micro-wave until sugar is dissolved, stirring once or heat on stove top, stirring until sugar dissolves. Pour over crust and bake at 400° for 35-40 minutes.
