2 apples, pared and thinly sliced
1/2 c. raisins
1/4 c. chopped nuts
1/3 c. packed brown sugar
1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. granulated sugar
3/4 c. t. baking soda
3/4 t. salt
1/2 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. cloves
1/4 t. allspice
1/8 t. baking powder
3/4 c. applesauce
1/4 c. water
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
Mix apple slices, raisins, nuts and brown sugar. Spread in a greased, 9×9 inch pan. Beat remaining ingredients in a large bowl on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high for 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour over fruit in pan. Bake at 350° for 50-60 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Invert onto a serving plate. Cut into 9 squares. Serve with whipped topping if desired.
